New Beginnings!

Hey chums! Hope you guys had a super holiday!

For those wondering about the Jams, yes, they are still on but they'll be a little different for a little while.

The topics will be simple and chosen by me, the selfish Sinistar1. I'll certainly be taking suggestions so please pester me on what Jams you want to do! Submissions will be limited to sketches only so that there's no pressure to post anything amazing. Just have fun and participate. New topic soon!

For those into comic making, would you be interested in doing an anthology of some sorts like POPGUN? Something 4-8 pages each? Would be amazing to showcase some of your work at conventions. If it goes well, we might even make it an annual thing. Let me know your ideas peeps.

  1. So is it like a comic, that we each add our own new part to it? Like you start with the first few pages, I add my own thing, then say Red adds his own thing afterwards and so on?

I apologize for not posting since Octoberish--I was jumping into my school work full throttle, and then my computer when kaputz pretty much (iTunes was running with a CPU of 100% and it was locking up and dying a ton--but I just got a new macbook Pro that I've been playing with since x-mas). I've got drawings for each art jam, but just haven't gotten around to scanning it all and posting them yet.

I always feel so incomplete posting just a sketch x-x; But I'll try!

  3. It's like a comic collection of short individual stories. It will be great for first timers to finally dip their feet in the waters or for others to flex their creative muscles with a brief throwaway story.

And yeah, iTunes is a major resource hog!

  4. I like the idea of a little anthology because I like anthologies and there's a really creative group here.

  5. I'd like to see that. A comic anthology by our humble group would be awesome to see and if we make it out to conventions in our respective areas, we'd be able to showcase each others work to a much broader group of people.

As for an art jam, I was thinking a jam based on a concept rather than defined subject. The concept I came up with in the shower was "bring me your broken" and another was "What is true freedom?". This way we can really let our creative styles show and then we can psycho analize each others stuff. What you choose tells others something about yourself subcontiously. That idea came from when you found out some of my first drawing insperations were from the old black and white Dracula films. I never thought of how deep seeded that insperation might have been.

I was thinking it would be better if one guy takes the lead and establishes the jam for each month, so good on ya for taking the mantel.

  6. Coming up with stuff I can print and sell at conventions this year would be SO friggin' awesome. A friend of mine is a pretty damn good artist, and we were thinking of eventually getting a place in the artist ally to sell some of our stuff. Last year I made it to Otakon, Anime Boston, and PAX. There were a lot of obvious amateur work out there that were selling things (like grade school note book quality @-@). But it looked like fan art defiantly sold, pictures that were just really beautiful sold too, but it's really hard to sell your own stories out there if you can't make it appealing enough. Mmm... Maybe if you wanted to start selling your own story at conventions, I would suggest making a real hard fan base online, and then selling stuff that they can't access online at the convention, and then like making it available to buy online as well.

So let me know about the baseline for the comic story anthology we'll be making. I'd love to give a go at it ^-^
